The Borough fire department as well as surrounding departments responded to a garage fire on the 400 block of Green Street this afternoon. The fire was reported by FF Todd Brant who spotted the fire on his way home from work as a Borough Police Officer. The new Rescue Pumper arrived first due and stretched a line to quickly extinguish the fire. Engines from South Greensburg, Carbon, Greensburg 3 and 6, Youngwood’s Tower Ladder, Greensburg’s Air Truck, and Fort Allen/Crabtree Rapid Intervention Team assisted on scene. The damage was held to a minimal amount to a small area of the first floor of the two 1/2 story Garage/Residence. The fire was ruled accidental by Chief Wright.

Station 24 and the first alarm were activated for a reported house fire in the 400 block of Chestnut St in the Borough. Chief 24 Wright arrived on scene just over 2 minutes after dispatch and reported a working fire.

Crews arrived to a reported Natural Gas Leak on Mt Pleasant Street in the Borough. Gas was leaking from the riser of a meter set. Members contained the leak and secured area until Peoples Natural Gas arrived on site.

Truck 24 was activated at 7:50 this morning to assist South Greensburg with an individual who fell approximately 16’ into an excavation. The truck was used as a high point and crew members assisted with the extrication.

The new year kicked into full gear as the Truck and/or Rescue Pumper responded to 9 incidents, including our first building fire of 2018 (pictures below assisting Hempfield #2), and 4 accidents, 1 of which had entrapment and multiple serious injuries (pictured-assisting the City).

At 10:04 PM Station 24 was dispatched to the 200 block of Foster Street in the Borough for a smell of smoke in a house. Upon arrival, Chief Wright found smoke coming from a duplex across the street and down the alley from the reported address.

The Rescue Pumper and Truck responded to the 500 Block of Oakland Ave for a fence on fire. Neighbors were using garden hoses on the fire upon arrival. The Rescue Pumper stretched a line to finish extinguishment.
